The Vaccination Symposium is an annual continuing professional development event organised by Hannover Medical School, traditionally hosted by the Centre of Excellence in Infectious Diseases. Leading experts present the latest developments in vaccination medicine and provide information on vaccination guidelines. Through dialogue with the invited speakers, participants also have the opportunity to discuss questions and exchange experiences.

Scientific leadership is provided by the Centre of Excellence in Infectious Diseases:

  • Department of Paediatric Pneumology, Allergology and Neonatology
  • Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endocrinology
  • Department of Pneumology
  • Department of Rheumatology and Immunology
  • Institute of Medical Microbiology and Hospital Hygiene
  • Institute of Virology

Past events:

25th Vaccination Symposium

Continuing medical education event organised by the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endocrinology at the MHH and the CiiM

The 25th Vaccination Symposium was entirely dominated by COVID-19: as a result, this long-standing event could not take place as usual in a packed lecture theatre, but was broadcasted in a virtual format. We are delighted that this format enabled us to reach a large number of interested parties, with more than 300 participants joining us at the peak.

The thematic focus was also on COVID-19: Dr Isabell Pink reported on COVID-19 at the MHH and the follow-up of patients and potential long-term effects. Prof Tobias Welte introduced the various vaccine platforms and summarised the numerous COVID-19 vaccine developments.

In the second half, Prof Markus Cornberg discussed new developments in the prevention of viral hepatitis, and Dr Miriam Wiestler spoke about vaccination recommendations for patients with chronic conditions.

In a concluding interactive discussion session, further aspects such as travel vaccinations and vaccinations for children and adolescents were discussed with Prof Ulrich Baumann and Dr Albert Heim.
