"With Michael Manns, we have lost the initiator and architect of the CiiM. He pursued the vision of individualized infectious disease medicine with determination and created structures that form the basis of our work today. For me personally, he was a mentor, advisor, and companion for many years. His legacy will guide us, and I am deeply committed to continuing his ideas at CiiM," says Prof. Dr. Markus Cornberg, Director of CiiM.
Prof. Dr. Yang Li, Director of CiiM, adds: "Michael Manns was a man of great vision, as well as a mentor, advisor, and companion throughout my journey at the CiiM. The trust he placed in me and his steadfast support provided enduring strength and inspiration in both my research and leadership. His wisdom, his encouragement, and above all, his friendship will be profoundly missed."
Dr. Jennifer Debarry, who has been involved in the establishment and development of CiiM from the very beginning and worked closely with Michael Manns, emphasizes: "Without his foresight, tireless dedication, and persuasiveness, this center would not have been created. He knew how to bring people together, motivate them, and bring out the best in them through trust. This unifying nature and his vision will continue to guide us at CiiM in the future."
Prof. Dr. Dirk Heinz, who was Scientific Director of the HZI when the CiiM was founded, also pays tribute to Michael Manns‘ outstanding role: “With Michael Manns as the first clinical director of the HZI and founding director of the CiiM, the strategic partnership between the HZI and MHH was taken to a new level. Through his strong personal commitment, he paved the way for increasingly personalised infectious disease medicine in the future.”
With Michael Manns, the CiiM has lost a visionary and influential figure. His scientific and personal achievements will live on in the work of the center.
